What we Did in Our Advanced Integrative TOEFL Class on Monday, August 12th 2013

LESSON 1

a | 09:30 – 09:43 | Started the week by discussing everyone’s weekends and individual adventures since our last class.

b | 09:43 – 10:40 & 10:50 – 11:50 | Advanced Integrative lessons: Global Literature lecture from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

  • Started, but did not finish, the third worksheet about this lecture last Wednesday. We had a new student today so we did the speaking prompts again with different partners.
  • For the reading section, I added 4 new questions and put them up on the board
  • Played the second 10 minutes of the lecture and had the students take notes.
  • As they were checking in pairs I played the first 60-90 seconds again.
  • We spent a long time discussing the second prompt about “what it means to be human” and everyone had good ideas whether it be values, morals, personality, character and I also pointed out that there’s no clear dictionary definition and it’s a question we are still answering every day.
  • We were not able to finish everything, so I assigned it for homework.

c | 11:50 – 12:00 | Began the Guide to Speaking from The Complete Guide to the TOEFL Test (CGT) with a worksheet that was then assigned as homework.

d | 12:45 – 14:00 | CGT Reading Simulation 4

e | 14:15 – 15:00 | IEP Pronunciation Elective
