Thanksgiving Speech

I am sad to miss the meal with family and parties with friends for the second year in a row on Thanksgiving, instead I get to give my students a three minute speech I prepared which a few kids in each class are mildly interested in hearing,

Thanksgiving is a holiday celebrated in America and Canada. In America it is every year on the 4th thursday in November. It is called Thanksgiving, because people “give thanks”. You “give thanks” on thanksgiving for the food you have to eat and your family. Usually people have a lunch party where they invite all of their family: brothers, sisters, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. Normal food for Thanksgiving is turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberries and pumpkin pie for desert. After they eat, many people sit down and watch American football on TV. The day after Thanksgiving is Black Friday, and many shops have very cheap prices for shopping.

Given I am the one who created it, I’m almost 100% positive it’s totally OK that I release it into the Public Domain, which I did.

If you have any thoughts on how the speech could be improved or things I forgot to include, please mention it in the comments. Note that I do not have a computer in the classroom to use, so I can’t add pictures which may or may not be a bad thing.

Amplifications & Corrections

  • 24 Nov 2009 – An earlier version of this post only said “I do not have a computer” as opposed to “I do not have a computer in the classroom to use” in the last paragraph. The original statement was obviously not clear enough, I appreciate Grandma and my father bringing this to my attention.

  1. Grandma, thanks for the compliments on the speech.

Sorry about the confusion about the computer. I have one at home, but I do not have one to use in my classroom. That was what I meant when I said I do not have one to use to show the kids pictures.
